Ribbon Cable Assemblies

Technical Cable Applications specializes in manufacturing custom cable assemblies for data transfer, power, automation, and telecommunications applications. This includes the widely used category of “ribbon” cable assemblies, which are also sometimes referred to as “flex” or “flat” cables.

These cables are typically manufactured in order to squeeze data and power transfer wires in very tight spaces with a thin, flat profile. They are often foldable or will be prefolded to perfectly fit within the intended space, whether it’s a server stack, circuit board, assembly line, or electronic module.

The term “ribbon” comes from the often colorful cables and connectors chosen for some flat cable assemblies, usually in industry-standard resistor color code that makes it easy for electricians, factory workers, or IT experts to quickly get the ribbon cable connected in the right way.

Ribbon cables may also overlap with the increasingly popular “twisted pair” style of assembly, where multiple colors of cable are wound together in a highly flexible way that can be twisted further as needed to fit within small spaces.

United States Ribbon Cable Assemblies Manufacturing

Our American manufacturing facility in Washington state is one of the most advanced in the nation, boasting full ribbon cable assembly prototyping, testing, and manufacturing capabilities all right here in the Puget Sound area. We also manufacture assemblies in M12, Cat6, USB, SATA, DisplayPort, coaxial, and more data transfer connector types.

With the ability to produce highly custom die casts and injection molding, but also the manpower and automated systems to manufacture in bulk for large OEM orders, Technical Cable Applications is a fantastic choice for your ribbon cable assembly needs, regardless of industry or size.

We are UL certified for cable assembly in the United States and Canada, along with being ISO 9001:2015 certified and ITAR certified as well. We hold to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Standard Revision E for our quality control standards, and utilize automated work instruction systems from our friends at Scout Systems that allow us to maximize efficiency and improve processes for new cable types and projects.

Nearshore OEM or Custom Harnesses and Assemblies

We are also proud to work with two partner facilities in Guadalajara that provide nearshore manufacturing capabilities for us and our clients. These facilities work very closely with us and hold to the same quality control standards as our American facility, while allowing us to improve lead times and offer lower MOQs (minimum order quantity) than we could with overseas manufacturing in the past.

While there’s always a possibility that some parts or connectors may only be manufactured or obtainable from overseas, we can offer nearshore manufacturing for most orders thanks to these partnerships.

We would love to provide you with a quote for your ribbon cable assembly order! Just contact us at [email protected] and attach your cable drawing, plus any additional specifications, documentation, or required NDAs so we can get started as soon as possible.

*Please provide cable drawings and all documentation available when contacting us so we can quickly give you an accurate quote. We will do our best to research specifications and materials if a drawing is not available, but if no documentation exists that may need to be created first before we can proceed.
